Magnolia Polley, Massage Therapist

My first memories were formed in the Cascadia Lake community of Lake Chelan, Washington in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.  From this region, crystal clear glacial waters, towering mountains, pine trees and sagebrush are the elements that my artistic mind has always turned to for inspiration.

Having a true passion for the raw experience of life has led me in the right direction or, rather, just where I need to be.  This is not to say I haven't had my challenges; but each one has definitely brought its opportunities, too.

Childhood.  During my youth, I moved around a bit and lived in a few towns between Seattle and Central Washington.   During this time, the spiritual and healing arts had my attention.  By the time I was eleven years old, I was observing spiritual activity and having regular encounters with a few particular entities.  These harmless, positive, and confusing encounters were consistent for about three years.

At the age of fourteen most of the very visual encounters had ended, and of course, I was more than a little distracted with the normal activities of a teenager.  My main interest through high school was with artistic expression in every form.  Although I had a natural flair for speech, performance, writing and art of all kinds, I also had a special sensitivity for the well being of others.

College.  Like many young adults, I had my struggles with choosing a major in college.  I began in law, moved into philosophy and with that anthropology.  From this I realized my true interest was in the evolution of thought about the mind, body and spirit -- and more particularly Native American history, culture and medicine.

During college I came to know a respected Northwest Native American medicine man named Beaver Chief.  We became acquainted initially because of my interest in recording his story and the oral history of his tribal group, the Lummi.  It was in one of our frequent conversations that he reminded me of a truth relevant to anyone interested in the spiritual realm.

"Magnolia, you can do whatever it is you want, but you must understand and take responsibility for your actions.  Whatever it is that you choose is on the side of the light or the dark.  Witchcraft, Satanism, and vampirism all live on the side of the darkness; but helping others, the healing arts, and many other paths are on the side of the light.  Be conscious of what you choose, because there are many things that would like to manipulate you for their own will."

A Career in Healing Arts.  During my cultural studies, I started to participate in a range of ceremonies with Beaver Chief and sometimes with others.  I found the blessings to be simple, powerful, and sacred.  At about the same time my grandmother encouraged me to go through massage school.  Although I had frequently performed massage for my friends and family, until then, I had never considered the profession.  Beaver Chief assured me that I could still write about the Lummi oral traditions without having a Master's Degree in anthropology.  He observed that the world needed me to start doing healing work NOW.

After traveling to Hawaii to perform land blessings with my mentor, I enrolled in a one-year massage course there.  It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  The school of teachers I met there, along with Beaver Chief and many other positive mentors, catapulted me into the amazing field of bodywork.

Over the years I have been dedicated to helping others to become more healthy and stress-free.  Because I have studied many modalities of body and energy work, my techniques are integrative.

I count among my clients both the famous and the infamous.  The following is an abbreviated list of celebrities who I have worked on:  Tyra Banks, Angela Bassette, Leslie Bibbs, Joy Bryant, Ted Casablanca, Teresa Cheng, Sarah Finnegan, Heather Graham, Maggie Gyllenhaul, Teri Hatcher, Anne Hesch, Kelly Hu, Patti Lapone, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Nick Lachey, Heath Ledger, Jerry O'Connell, Jeremy Piven, Amanda Seyfried, and Nicolette Sharidon -- to name a few.
